THE BIOGRAPHY OF DJ 88.

DJ88 (née Bree Cohen) – a Los Angeles native/Las Vegas transplant – has been DJing for nine years.

Recently awarded Best Las Vegas Female DJ of 2012 by Vegas Seven Magazine, Bree has built quite a resume boasting residencies at the hottest venues in Vegas.  Aside her DJ residency and title as music/program director at downtown Las Vegas’ hot spot INSERT COIN(S), her past residencies include Marquee at The Cosmopolitan and The Palms Casino Resort Casino. Bree was responsible for creating the music format for one of The Palms most successful nights, “Snitch” at Ghostbar.  As the original resident DJ she introduced a completely different kind of party to Las Vegas which became the first of its kind for a casino property to embrace by tossing out the club/top 40 format and bringing the feel of LA and NY to Las Vegas.  Expanding her DJ88 brand Bree is breaking ground once again hosting/curating a critically acclaimed DJ driven weekly party called VERSUSpresented by her DJ interview series “HANG THE DJ”.  This night held at Insert Coins in downtown Las Vegas features an impressive list of revered known and local DJs every week in which she has interviewed in her series.

Bree was recently featured in the December 11′ issue of Vegas Rated Magazine’s “Sex Symbols in the City” as one of the most beautiful people in Las Vegas.  She also been featured several times in 944, Seven Magazine, VEGAS Magazine, and Racket Magazine and has been voted/nominated for various accolades including “Best Female DJ”, “Queen of Clubs”, “Top Women in Nightlife”, and Las Vegas Weekly’s “Most Beautiful People in Las Vegas”. She is celebrated not only for her striking look and personal style, but for her philanthropic work raising awareness for animal-rescue/adoption awareness. Over the past eight years DJ88 has raised more than $40,000 for various animal-rescue organizations.

Bree has opened for a stellar list of artists including The Roots, De La Soul, Snoop Dog, She Wants Revenge, Damian Marley, and Sean Paul as the 4 year resident DJ for The Hard Rock Hotels “Friday Nite Live” concert series . Best known for her remarkable versatility, she gracefully orchestrates the foxiest sets of music at special events for A-listers such as The de Young Museum, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, Kate Spade, Zappos, InStyle Magazine, The New Yorker Magazine, Porsche, John Varvatos, Miami Fashion Week, Vdara Hotel, Aria Hotel, Palms Place Hotel & Spa, W Hotels, The Setai, 944 Magazine, Moët & Chandon, Red Bull and Tequila Patrón.  Adding to her resume, has also held guest residencies at Bar Marmont (Los Angeles), The Wynn Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, and Palms Place.

DJing was not Bree’s first run-in with the music industry. Prior to becoming a DJ, the early ‘90s were an epic time for her as she was involved with some of LA’s most memorable parties. In 1996, Cohen started managing DJ Adam 12 while working in the soundtrack division at Atlantic Records, resulting in an Associate Producer credit on the critically acclaimed High School High soundtrack. She has worked with artists including Redman, Method Man, DMX, Pete Rock, and Lauren Hill. In 2003, her former client DJ Adam 12 was signed to Interscope Records as one half of the electro/dance group She Wants Revenge. Upon his signing, he convinced Bree to DJ by giving her a set of turntables. The rest, as they say…

Bree is also sought-after for her exquisite tailor-made playlists, she has become the musical muse for a growing number of the country’s most popular hotspots, curating soundtracks for restaurants/venues such as HYDE Bellagio, La Cave at the Wynn Resort (Las Vegas), Curve boutique (LA, San Francisco, Miami, NY), Insert Coins, and formerly 9 Steakhouse and NOVE Italiano at the Palms.

Her DJ style is described as cinematic. Although her first loves are classic hip hop and soul, she constantly displays her versatility via her deep love for various genres of music, spinning sultry sets of electro, future disco, R&B, neo-soul, soulful house, down-tempo, classic rock, ’80s, and of course, club hits.

“True success and longevity come from versatility, It’s all about being a genuine lover of music and having an incredible library of music as your arsenal.  Being able to move any crowd off the cuff whether a high end cocktail event or a nightclub is not something every DJ can do.  We all have our strengths and weaknesses and versatility has always been my biggest advantage.  Right now my focus is on spotlighting that versatility, i.e. DJing the Jean Paul Gaultier opening ceremonies last month at The de Young museum in San Francisco and then the following week DJing live for De La Soul and Brand Nubian.  This year I’m continuing to expand my brand via special events and traveling as opposed to Vegas nightclub residencies three to five days a week.  It is time for something more, something that I can put my stamp on, create, develop,…you really can’t do that as a resident DJ in big nightclubs out here, so I’m very excited about my new title as music/program director at INSERT COIN(S) and my involvement and support of the success of downtown Las Vegas.  The next couple of years are going to be the most important of my career.  I have the greatest “job” in the world.”
