Former Vegas Resident DJ, Avicii, Dead at 28

Avicii dead at 28

The Grammy nominated electronic dance DJ who sold out concerts around the world and had monumental success on U.S. pop radio died Friday at the age of 28.

The Swedish performer born Tim Bergling was found dead in Muscat, Oman, a popular vacation destination, according to his publicist Diana Baron.

A statement just released read, “it is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling also known as Avicii. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”

No details about his death were made public at this time by either the Oman police or the state media.

In 2014, Avicii had his appendix and gallbladder removed due to acute pancreatitis caused, in part, by excessive drinking. He stopped touring in 2016 but continued laying down tracks in the studio.

Avicii was an international star often performing his well-known songs to festivals comprised of hundreds of thousands of people. His popular sound brought him to the top of the charts and landed his music on U.S. radio. His most recognized song, “Wake Me Up,” was a multi-platinum success and ranked No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. He had seven Top 10 hits on the dance charts.

He was one of the rare DJ-producers including David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia to succeed as headliners in their own right.

Avicii even collaborated with high-profile acts producing Madonna’s “Devil Pray” and Coldplay hits “A Sky Full of Stars” and “Hymn for the Weekend.”

He was nominated for two Grammy Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and one Billboard Music Award.

Avicii’s death comes just days after being nominated for a 2018 Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP “Avicii (01).” He is also the subject of the 2017 documentary, “Avicii: True Stories” by Levan Tsikurishvil.

He was quoted as saying, “it’s been a very crazy journey. I started producing when I was 16. I started touring when I was 18.”

RIP Avicii.
