Signed and Sealed: Calvin Harris Inks Exclusive Hakkasan Deal

Less than a month into the New Year and already 2015 is shaping up to be a pretty good one for Calvin Harris. The immensely popular DJ was coasting into this year on the strength of Motion, his fourth studio album released in November, when word came down that Harris just inked a three-year exclusive partnership with the Hakkasan Group, guaranteed to keep him in front of Las Vegas audiences through 2017.

The deal calls for Harris to divide his time between Hakkasan properties here, including Hakkasan Nightclub and the day club at Wet Republic, both at MGM Grand. He will also be performing at the new Omnia Nightclub in Caesars Palace—formerly the site of Pure—slated to open later this spring.

The newly minted 30-year-old—Harris celebrated his birthday on January 17—will also serve as a consultant to the growing Hakkasan empire as the company expands its properties from dining establishments and music venues to hotels, advising on music, guest experiences, and event concepts.

Harris said Hakkasan’s clubs are among the best in the world, and the group’s heritage recalls “the ’90s golden era of dance music.” Regarding the company’s future plans, Harris said, “We have some great ideas up our sleeves.”

The partnership seems a match made in super-stardom heaven. In just two years the Hakkasan Group has exploded, growing revenue from $100 million to $500 million and negotiating a deal to take over more than a dozen Vegas clubs and restaurants currently operated by The Light Group, while 2014 proved a banner year for Harris as well. Besides his star-studded release of Motion, which included collaborations with Ellie Goulding, HAIM, and Gwen Stefani, Harris was named Best Electronic Artist at MTV’s Europe Music Awards show.

Hakkasan Group CEO Neil Moffitt called Harris “a truly sensational artist.” Moffitt added, “We look forward to what he will bring to our most acclaimed venues over the next three years.”
